About

This blog will operate as an on-going update system for News21 fellows Phil Tenser and Andrew Burton.

News in the 21st Century (News21) is an 3-year project funded by the Carnegie and Knight Foundations involving eight of the best journalism and communications schools in the country. Tasked with “re-inventing journalism” for the 21st century, selected universities assemble student teams of newspaper, photography and broadcast journalists, along with web experts and students interested in web-innovation.

Andrew Burton is visual journalist especially interested in photography. He has worked and lived internationally. His resume includes photographing the Beijing Olymipcs, interning at Bloomberg News and the Syracuse Post Standard and being published in numerous international publications including Newsweek and the International Herald Tribune. He is especially interested in visually exploring the “American tapestry,” and is excited to produce photo essays and multimedia presentations.

Phil Tenser will complete his dual undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism and Philosophy this May and is excited to be capping his academic career with the News21 fellowship. Most recently he interned with NBC Sports as a logger for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He has also spent time interning for KVOA News in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona and was later hired by that station to work as a video editor. In addition to new media and multimedia technology, Phil’s interests include movies, traveling, and cooking. Check out Phil’s website for more.

Collectively, the will be travelling throughout Hopkinsville, Kentucky; Sioux Center, Iowa; and Lincoln City, Oregon from May 18 until July 24. They are excited to meet you and would love to tell your story.
