About Melissa and Brad

Syracuse University students Brad Horn and Melissa Romero are News21 fellows who will be posting their adventures throughout the summer as they report from what the Christian Science Monitor’s Patchwork Nation calls Immigration Central: El Mirage, Arizona.  Follow the two as they document their experiences in your town, meet new people, and find their stories on Youth and Technology.

Note: You can also visit http://teensandtechnology.org/monied-burbs, their other blog following the Monied Burbs of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Melissa Romero, 20,  is currently a junior newspaper and online journalism major in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.  As a reporter and anthropology minor, she is simply curious about life, and channels that curiosity into meeting new people, and documenting their life stories.  While at Syracuse Melissa has written for numerous campus publications, as well as newspapers throughout the Syracuse area.  Melissa’s second passion is competing for the Syracuse University Track and Field Team as a high jumper.

Brad Horn is currently working on a Master’s of Journalism at Syracuse University in the Visual and Interactive Communications curriculum in the Newhouse School of Public Communications.  His focus is NPR-style radio, multmedia journalism, and online storytelling.  Horn has a self-designed degree in documentary studies from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has studied at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.  His photographs, writing, and interviews have appeared in several small publications and his audio pieces have aired on NPR affiliate WAER in Syracuse, New York.
